About Our Savior
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son,
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,
but to save the world through Him.”
– John 3:16-17
Where it all started
Our History
At the heart of Our Savior Lutheran Church and Academy is the Savior, Jesus Himself. His calling to us is clear: “Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you…”
(Matthew 28:19-20 NLT)
Mission possibilities were first explored in middle Tennessee in the 1950’s. Then, on July 19, 1964, Mission Director, Rev. Paul Ph. Spitz, encouraged our mother congregation, Concordia, Nashville, in partnership with the LC-MS Western District, to implement plans for establishing a mission in south Nashville.
The Beginning
A core group of future members would remain at Concordia until the completion of a worship facility and a pastor was installed for the mission. On December 17, 1964, Morris Meyers facilitated the purchase of 8 acres of property for the new mission site at 5110 Franklin Road. On May 14, 1965, the architectural firm of Swensson-Kott was contracted to develop building plans, and on May 26, 1966, the Phipps Construction Company was selected for building the first unit.
Rev. Jack T. Robinson was called on September 20, 1966 to serve as missionary-at-large for the Nashville area and first pastor of the south Nashville Mission. On May 21, 1967, prayers were answered and a dream became God’s reality. Our Savior Lutheran Church was born!

LIVING, SERVING, AND GIVING
Our missional motto is:
“LIVING, SERVING, AND GIVING…IT’S A WAY OF LIFE!”
We strive to live this out in all aspects of our lives,
not just on Sundays.
Living
Serving
Jesus’ ministry was about love and service to others. We imitate Christ when we help and serve those who are need. Matthew 20:28, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
Giving
Using the spiritual gifts God has given us, we are generous and giving in the use of our time, talents, and treasures. 2nd Corinthians 9:7-8, “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.”
